Meteorological phenomenon peculiar to urban areas
In urban cities, artificial heat waste, quality of building structure, and air pollution cause meterological phenomena paticular to urban cities. Tokyo, one of the megaropolicies, is not exceptional, where toropical nights and local severe rains are reported. These are big social problems. In this research subject, we grasp widely the urban meteorological phenomena by using both ground observation and satellite observation.
On the roof of Yoyogi school building (#2), we locate meteorological observation instruments and start successive mesurements. This instrument enables us to measure wind orientation, wind velocity, temperature, humidity, and amount of rainfall in Yoyogi area continuously.
This instrument was set on for the purpose of grasping urban meteorological phenomena. From now on we plan to set on the same kind of instruments in suburbs and to make a mesurement in order to reveal difference of meteorological phenomena between suburbs and urban areas.
What is more, we plan to make a comparison between obsevation picture of urban areas by Earth Observation satellite and data of meteorological observation instruments.
